Complutense University is the largest public university in Spain enrolling about 80, 000 Students in Faculties, University Schools, Doctorate and Master Degrees programs. It was founded in the ancient town of Complutum, nowadays Alcalá de Henares, by Cardinal Cisneros in 1499 following the granting of papal bulls by Pope Alexander VI. However, the true history of Complutense University can be traced back to May 20th 1293, the date on which King Sancho IV of Castile created the Estudio de Escuelas Generales de Alcalá which two centuries later would become Cisneros’ Complutense University.
Complutense University offers high standards of excellence that serve as a reference for other universities in Spain, Europe and Latin America. Few universities in the international sphere achieve such a high level of innovation as Complutense University.
