Hotel Accomodations - Information

The Organizing Committee has negotiated and reserved block of rooms in area hotels close to the University and are accessible by a short walk to UQAM and the Metro station near the university.

The registration fees include accommodations for three nights: Tuesday through Thursday, May 17-19, 2016. It also includes daily breakfast, in most hotels, and daily lunch at the university from Wednesday through Friday, May 18-20, 2016. The registration fees provide single occupancy rooms but double occupancy rooms are available for additional nominal fees and include breakfast for two, when applicable.

You may extend your stay or arrive earlier, up to 3 days, for the same special rates we received from the hotel. Contact our office for more details. For any extended stay, daily breakfast but not lunch will be provided free by the hotel, when applicable.

The registration to the conference includes a complimentary Reception on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. For spouses or companions who do not register for the conference, there might be a nominal fees for participating in the Reception.

PLEASE NOTE: Hotel rooms will be assigned on a “First come first serve basis” and according to the registration category and hotel class. Once the rooms block in a given hotel is used, or the deadline for reservation with the hotel is expired, IAMB will not be able to offer the same registration fees. The registration fees will then be adjusted to reflect the prevailing guestroom rates at that time. The Organizing Committee, therefore, strongly recommends that you register and secure your room reservations as early as possible.

Once the rooms block in a given hotel class is filled, an alternate hotel class will be offered. For changes from 4 star hotels to 3 star hotels, an appropriate refund will be given to the registrant. If you registered and paid for 3 star hotel and no more rooms are available in that category, you will be offered an upgrade to 4 star hotel or the accommodation portion of your registration fees will be refunded to you. In that case, you will be responsible for your own accommodations.

Airport & Ground Transportation

The Montreal International Airport (Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport) is about 20 Km (12 miles) from UQAM. There are a few possibilities (prices in Canadian Dollars):

1. By the 747 Express Bus: The fare with 747 express bus to downtown is $10 and takes about 45 – 60 minutes depending on traffic. The bus has WiFi. You may buy the ticket at STM ticket machine on the international arrival level, or buy the ticket on the bus with exact change in coins only.
2. Taxcab and Limo: Taxi rates are fixed at $40 to downtown montreal for up to practically 3 persons . Meter rides to other destinations have minimum charge of $17. Customary tip the to the driver averages about 15%. Credit cards are often accepted (inquire with the driver) and sometime American dollars are accepted. Limos can be hired at the airport without prior reservation and have fixed cost of $55 to downtown plus the customary tip.
3. Regular Bus: The fare to downtown is $3, coin only. This service is not recommended! The ride could be more difficult and time consuming especially with luggage since it involves transfer and some walking. The bus runs every 30 minutes.
4. By Train: This mode of transportation is also not smooth. There is no train from the airport to downtown Montreal. You will need either a bus ride ($3) to reach the AMT commuter train station and then take the train $7) to Montreal, or take a free shuttle service by Via Rail to reach their train station, and then purchase ticket ($20) to downtown Montreal.
